General Electric

    Newer Older

The (relatively) famous sign and logo atop the main building at the shrinking complex for General Electric Power Systems in Schenectady, New York. The sign is made up of thousands of light bulbs. The sign blinks, or flashes, slowly and this behavior is driven by variable reluctance transformers.

It could be said that Schenectady has a "Love-Hate" relationship with the multinational corporation and the heads of its Power Systems division (and nearby R&D group in Niskayuna) with regards to issues of economics (employment, labor relations, taxes) and the environment (pollution).

Very classy shot. Thanks for sharing it with the Creative Commons. I used it to enhance an article about business and human rights on Policy Innovations magazine.

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Electri-cute, and we'd love to have your photo added to the group.

This makes the connection to electricity a couple of ways. Nice sunset colors!

Reminds me of home (Schenectady/Niskayuna). Amazing how GE ruled that area.

Brings back memories! I remember being in a St.Clare's Hospital when I was six years old (1962) and from my room, I could watch this sign flash on and off at night.
