3 tier wedding cake with peony and rose cascade
Two weddings today. This is the cake Mrs Mac made for the first wedding, which was being held in a teepee in a waterlogged field, in the (still) pouring rain. Her car got stuck just delivering the cake and this is the same field all the guests were expected to park in later. No news yet on how it went, but I imagine the ushers had a fairly muddy day pushing cars...
Any tips from anyone on how to improve my cake photography would be greatly appreciated as I'm not happy generally with how I'm doing. I can't afford any lighting setup at the moment so I'm limited to the one SB-600 either on or off camera. In this case it's off camera and bounced off the ceiling and side walls above the cake (which is in a little alcove). This gives a reasonable flood (burns the tops of the cakes though) and leaves fairly deep shadows which help to define the petals, but the colours feel a little washed out to me, and the whole shot looks flat. Maybe it's just me?
