Pointe Aux Chenes Spawning Reef Construction
A mutli-agency team of scientists are creating a 1.5 acre underwater structure, a spawning reef, to help boost populations of native fish such as lake sturgeon.

Project partners include the US Geological Survey, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the University of Michigan Water Center, Michigan Sea Grant and the Michigan Wildlife Conservancy. Funding is from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

The restoration site is 200 feet offshore in Algonac Michigan and is easily visible from St. Clair River Drive (M-29).

Photos are from September 4, 2014. Construction will be completed by mid September, 2014.
