Keen me - pre-mountain climb. Note bell attached to my belt loop to keep the bears away. Happily, it worked. It was loaned to me by the most obliging hotel owners ever, at Mizushiro Alpine Inn at Norikura Kogen. They also loaned me some little spiky things to put on my shoes, so I wouldn't slip over on the ice. Thanks to them, I was bruise-free after the 8-hour walk, about 3 through snow.
