    I liked this one.

Seems to have the same magical tonality as the D700

thank you! Tonality is to some degree dictated by lens and processing - but yes, the fundamentals are there. It'll require me to do a new color profile, though - results aren't quite 100% perfect yet.
  • Alex PRO 3y

    Love your compositions!
  • Jean-François Pfeiffer PRO 3y

Superbe image, les couleurs sont-elles du fichier d'origine ?
  • Ming Thein PRO 3y

    thanks everybody!

Jean-Francois: close to original color, but no more correction done on this image than I'd do with any others.

A very informative review... thanks so much for posting it! I'm curious about what ISO you are shooting at in this image as well as the street shots that follow? If this is 6400 or even 3200 consider me sold. I've never worried too much about noise at the pixel level... my issue at high ISOs with my D90 and now my D700 is what happens to colour once I push the camera to its limits... particularly when lighting is from an artificial source... the D800 seems to be doing a very nice job of rendering artificial light in your night shots.

you added the vignetting to the bottom of the image in post correct? can you share what other treatments you do to differentiate from sooc? looks like a bump to contrast and maybe some tweaks to color curve?

also, are you using "standard" picture control as-shipped, or did you make any tweaks to sharpening etc? thanks.
  • Ming Thein PRO 3y

There's a bit of burning on the bottom portion of the image. I shot raw so picture controls don't apply. Adjustments include local dodge and burn, curves, sharpening and color adjustment.

How do you get your images so clean? What's your technique?
  • Ming Thein PRO 3y

Shot discipline and postprocessing. There isn't a simple answer for this: go read the archives on my site. blog.mingthein.com/archive/
