the secret life of walter mitty

could be the wings that carry you high
that carry you home

Our Daily Challenge: Open (an open mind is an escape hatch)
the geek behind the curtain: all shots and layers in this assemblage were taken and developed by myself.
candid shot of a guy crossing the street in a hurry yesterday (from my car, hand-held, point-and-shoot, just before it began to rain). shot of the interior of a hospital from last month. a random shot of summer clouds from somewhen that suggested an open door to me.
roughly 2 hours, almost half of which was selecting the guy out from his environment of traffic and other societal debris. had to erase a grocery bag from his left hand, then (very poorly) "build" around a third of that hand with a clone tool and some judicious blur. thankfully we can just see his ring on his finger. everything below that was pretty much invented. now that i'm seeing it uploaded i lose the ring. =(
copied the guy onto three layers. on the left-most layer he was fully saturated, the middle later desaturated by 50 percent, and the right side was fully black-n-white.
spent about an hour playing with layer masks on the guy and his background until i got a simple transition from reality to cloud. two other attempts at a background (one full of busy geometry and bright color, the other an empty street and a sliver of a storefront) were tried out and then abandoned.
