This butterfly is a very rare visitor to my garden. Because it never stays still, I've never been able to get a decent shot of it. Today's is the first of three views of it. The photos are by no means excellent because my camera couldn't stop the motion, so consider them record shots. In addition to this one, in the coming days I'll be sharing the dorsal view, a view with both sides showing, a three-pane mosaic, and an image processed with a texture, so get ready…
Zoe Bear got her three-year rabies shot yesterday morning and had a terrible reaction to it, even though the vet had given her a preventative shot of diphenhydramine (Benedryl). Within an hour, whenever she got up from lying down, her back legs weren't working right and she was stumbling around like she was drunk. She also seemed disoriented and anxious. Later in the day, when she fell over trying to poop, I brought her back to the vet, who gave me something I can wrap around a Benadryl pill (otherwise she'll spit it out), and I put her back on Metacam to ease whatever pain she might be in. She couldn't get to sleep last night till 3 a.m., but then slept comfortably till 7 a.m. This morning she seems normal—eating well, walking well, pooping without falling over, and even wanting to play, though I'll keep her activity level down today because she's still a bit twitchy when she's lying down. But she's bright eyed and waggy tailed, which is a huge relief. Please keep your fingers crossed that she'll continue to be okay after a scary day yesterday.
