Blue Bonnets 2009: 3 of 5 (setup shot)
Lots of things learned during this shoot.
1. I need CTO gels when shooting into the setting sun
2. Shoulda' used the umbrella. The harsh shadows give nice separation on the flowers but are a bit harsh on the kids.
3. Look at the HISTOGRAM on the LCD! Not the picture, damnit! Learn from your mistakes already!
I was taking this picture simply to find my exposure and balance my flash with the ambient but, "in post" (ha ha!), I liked the way the sun came through the trees. I decided to throw the single raw file at photomatix to see if I could get more blue and texture out of the sky. I was astonished at the result.
Photomatix kinda' screwed up the skin tones so I merged the layers in photoshop.
This is mostly a toy shot... just playing around. And since my light-stand is in the shot, I figured I'd post it as a setup shot. :)
By the way, did you see the movie "What Dreams May Come"? Kinda reminds me of that...
