The Duke of Edinburgh waves to crowds
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh waves to crowds that have turned out to greet the royal party on The Queen's Diamond Jubilee tour of the UK. He is accompanied here by the Mayor of the Borough of Richmond, Clare Head.
Prince Phillip is the husband of Elizabeth II. He is the United Kingdom's longest-serving consort and the oldest serving spouse of a reigning British monarch. A member of the Danish-German House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, Prince Philip was born into the Greek royal family, but his family was exiled from Greece when he was a child. On his marriage to Princess Elizabeth, he was granted the style of His Royal Highness and the title of Duke of Edinburgh by his father-in-law, George VI. Philip left active service in the Royal Navy, having reached the rank of Commander, when Elizabeth became Queen in 1952. His wife made him a Prince of the United Kingdom in 1957 and Lord High Admiral in 2011.
Wild London was a specially commissioned event for The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, held in Richmond Park, celebrating London's woodlands, parks and gardens.
