Garden Of The Gods

This is the most popular spot in Garden Of The Gods. Though, this is not the most popular place to shoot it from. Below this shot, just out of frame is a parking lot, where ten thousand people a day stand and shoot photos of these formations. I didn't like the perspective from there. The rocks were too close, and too spread apart. So, I looked back and saw that there was a big hill on the other side of the road, a few hundred feet high. It was fairly rocky and didn't seem to have much shrubbery, so it looked like an easy climb. I thought the perspective from up there could be nice.

So, I headed for the hill. Of course there was a fence. There is ALWAYS a fence. I climbed over that and started climbing the hill. It wasn't quite as barren as it looked from across the street. There weren't many large shrubs, but it was covered with smaller ones, about knee high. Below the shrubs were thousands of small cactus with long needles. The shrubs were completely covered with prickers, and stickers and thorns. So… The hike only took a few minutes, but the entire time, I was knee deep in really prickly things. My legs did a lot of bleeding. It was fun! So, that's where I took this shot.
