Is Your Camera Underexposing or Overexposing?

The subject is in open shade, and the background is in bright sunlight. This can be an exposure challenge for many dSLR's! Arlene Gee and I have been rapping on the Nikon D90 and D7000, and these cameras are relatively new to each of us.

My default EV setting in the D90 is -0.33 with the main mode dial on Aperture. For the above capture, I dialed in +0.33 EV exposure compensation. There were no other changes in lighting here, with some minor tweaks in editing.

AWB was default, and Metering was Matrix/evaluative. Nikon invented it, and I trust Matrix about 90% of the time. ISO 200, 52mm, f/4, 1/400s
