February – Kessock Bridge

Kessock Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge across the Beauly Firth between North Kessock and Inverness. Work started on the bridge in 1976 and it opened in 1982. The bridge has a total length of 1,056m with a main span of 240m. Beauly Firth is a navigable waterway and so the bridge had to raised high enough to allow ships to reach the docks at Inverness. The bridge carries the A9 north from Inverness to the Black Isle and was instrumental in improving communications in the Highlands.
