Today a group of individuals from The River church in Kalamazoo is leaving for a small village in Oditel, Uganda. It'll take about 3 days to reach the village but once there, the team's impact will be huge.
There are a lot of misconceptions about what 3rd world countries and deeply impoverished areas need to turn things around. Simply throwing money at a situation isn't the answer. Creating programs that are tailored for the culture is crucial. Micro-financing is one such program that The River helped initiate for the village and surrounding region that has already shown great promise.
There are tangibles and then there are intangibles. One of the biggest intangible things that The River team will be doing is just loving on the orphans. By investing in new relationships and strengthening existing ones, we believe a greater impact can be made.
Pictured above is a group of young women. The ones I know are Lucy Agweto on the far left and Christine Akwaso on the far right (who is our sponsored child). I love making them laugh and distracting them from their meals. Moments like this are what I really cherished. They're what make me long to return.
I'll be praying for The River team and I invite you to join me in doing so over the next two weeks.
