Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake

Sistrurus catenatus


One of eleven individuals observed on a warm October afternoon in southeast Michigan. More than 80 snakes were observed on this particular afternoon of varying species. The Eastern Massasauga was recently listed as a Threatened species by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, getting help it will need in the future to persist across its range.
