Scarlet Kingsnake

Lampropeltis elapsoides

A handsome adult found crossing the road just after dusk in the Everglades. This is my lifer individual, a snake that I probably should have found years ago, but satisfying nonetheless. This species is a coral snake mimic, utilizing bright colors to appear venomous. As the saying goes, "red next to black is a friend of Jack."
