Michigan Municipal League Region 4 Education Seminar in Saginaw
The Michigan Municipal League’s 2011 “MML Tour” continued June 1, 2011, with a tour stop at Saginaw City Hall for the Region 4 Education Seminar. The event drew about 20 municipal leaders from central Michigan and included presentations for the Region 4 Community Excellence Award (http://www.mml.org/awards/cea.html) by officials from Ithaca (City Manager Chelsey Foster for the “Back to Our Roots” flower planting program -http://www.ithacami.com/1/260/files/BacktoOurRoots.pdf), Saginaw (City Manager Darnell Earley for the city’s Mershon-Whittier Splash Park - miracleofmi.com/project/mershon-whittier-splash-park) and Clare (City Manager Ken Hibl and Police Officer Greg Rynearson). The City of Clare won the Community Excellence Award for Region 4 for its Cops & Doughnuts business and now will compete for the statewide CEA honor selected in October during the League’s 2011 Convention (http://www.mml.org/events/annual_convention/), which is in Grand Rapids Oct. 4-7 during ArtPrize. Other speakers at the June 1 event included Saginaw City Manager Darnell Earley, Saginaw Mayor Pro Tem Amos O’Neal, Mt. Pleasant City Commissioner Jon Joslin, Alpena Mayor and MML President Carol Shafto, League CEO Dan Gilmartin, Terence Moore, president and CEO of the Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance, and League staff Anthony Minghine, Andy Schor, Heather VanPoucker, Arnold Weinfeld.
