Mt. Rainier Sunrise

    Newer Older

Was up at dark o'clock to take this one -- see the blog post about this shot here

Also check out this pano of the same view taken roughly an hour earlier before the sun hit the mountain.

5 or 6 shot pano (already forgot and don't have Lightroom handy to check). Not an HDR.

Nice shot! I definitely like the shot with the sun on the mountain...adds a bit more drama and personality.

Really lovely tones across the mountain, and good preservation of detail in the trees. If I were to nitpick, I'd have to mention, however, that the ghosted power lines across the bottom detract from the feeling of the photo when viewed large-especially given the odd way they seem to hang from... nothing.

I'd agree with that for sure. My thought was that this would be mostly viewed at the small size that flickr displays so I chose not to worry about it. If I were ever printing it or displaying larger in general I would definitely crop or spend the time to deal with it completely in Photoshop. I didn't like the trees cropped too much -- if they were going to be there at all I'd rather have a bit more of them there. Maybe I'll revisit my decision and fix it though...Thanks for the comments.

Isn't that just the most fun mountain to photograph? I probably have a dozen shots of it up on Flickr, and never get tired of the infinite variations of light it presents to me.
You got a great pano of it this time. Bravo!
