Rome's hidden treasure - San Clemente Basilica

To go from the street outside this little basilica and down into the excavations underneath is to travel in time over 2,000 years from 21st Century Rome to the first century AD, from this 12th Century basilica to the 5th century one underneath and to a first century Roman villa and Mithraic temple underneath that again, built on the ashes of Nero's Rome.

See the set, Rome in Wide Angle here: . All photos are shot with 16 mm wide angle lens on a full frame sensor, giving a new perspective on a city so well photographed.
