Woo-ha, on Explore 31-5-2012!
This one's for my new Flickr friend Blunder.
This is a detail of my Mission 775LC record player from the late eighties. It's the second of the two record players that Mission ever built (the first one was quite advanced and expensive; this is a 'low cost' [LC] version). Still, it's quite heavy, made from a very stiff material, beautifully finished solid platter, and great tone arm. It's just a great piece of British design of the 80's. I don't believe that there are a lot of these around anymore.
It's not the best player, but it sounds more than OK. It deserves a better cartridge than the Shure M97HE that's mounted on it though. I used to have a Linn K5, which was a bit better. The tone arm, I believe, may have been used later in Rega Planar models.
More and more record stores start selling LPs again. I just love it.
