Loved this statue in front of the sea - if anyone knows name / history - you are most welcome - sorry cannot remember.
Lost thousands of photo in a hardisk crash and my backup remain on this maximum size - a real shame ... should not happen again !

The monument in Santo Domingo that honors the memory of Fray Antonio de Montesinos was donated to the country by Mexico in 1982.
In the superior terrace of the monument, a gigantic statue is contemplated representing Montesinos when it gestured in his sermon of Advent in the same entrance to the port of the city.
The friar Antonio de Montesinos was a great defender of the Taínos Indians; he arrived at the island next to the first friars of the Order from the Dominican ones immediately identified itself, just as the other members of the brotherhood, with the shortages suffered by the natives, which initiated like conscience question, a fight in please the Indians and their rights like equal human beings to the Spaniards.
In 1511 in the fourth Sunday of Advent, Montesinos sent to a brave sermon against the conquerors and their barbarism.
The monument remembers this fact.
For the census of Osorio in 1606 several families already existed single Indians.
