The controlling interest in the Los Angeles Railway was purchased from the Huntington estate by National City Lines which was run by the five Fitzgerald Brothers.

They renamed it the Los Angeles Transit Lines and at the end of World War II, they sought to substitute buses on most of the street car lines.

Los Angeles Transit Lines was acquired by the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority (LAMTA) in 1958.
