Rail Cars at Sixth and Main Elevated Station

circa 1943.

This photograph depicts Pacific Electric Railway Company rail cars no. 1263, 1120, and 379 at the 6th & Main Street elevated rail terminal.

Car 1263 is ex-Portland, Eugene & Eastern (Oregon), car 1129 was built for Pacific Electric Railway Company, and car 379 is still in its Southern Pacific number for use on Southern Pacific's now-abandoned electric suburban railway in San Francisco's Bay's eastbay region. Southern Pacific car no. 379 later became U.S. Maritime Commission 4630, then Pacific Electric 435, then Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority 1543. Much later, car 379 was painted in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Agency's green livery, and became part of the Travel Town Museum in Griffith Park.
