The bed
The finished product. This bed is massive and heavy. I used 3/4" plywood for the surface. The bamboo mat the bed was designed around fits nicely on the frame. One aspect of the construction technique is that the bed is easily taken apart and reassembled. The ease of disassembly was key in moving the bed to my second floor bedroom in part because the bed weighs approximately 175 pounds. (This thing is a tank.)
One final note, which I can only regard as a nice bit of synchronicity... the bed forms an almost perfect 'golden mean' rectangle. A ratio of the length to width of a rectangle that is supposed to be both aesthetically pleasing and very mathematical. The actual dimensions are 5x8 which are both Fibonacci numbers and which approximates the golden mean.
