rock rainbow wet

Newer Older

inspired by many photos on flickr of this sort of thing, I made my own rainbow of river rocks.

I bought them at lowes to make this, for about $5 rather than $58. :P

    Very pretty!

When I was a kid, I used to pick up pretty colorful rocks at the beach, and bring them home. But they always dried to a dull, pale color that was nothing like what they looked like on the beach. So I had this brilliant idea that I'd cover them in clear nail polish. That turned them a dull yellow, and they looked like ugly, dirty rocks.

These are so pretty, wet or dry. :-)

aw, that's too bad. they are much brighter wet. I was thinking, you know those coffee tables with clear tops that people put stuff in? I wonder if it could be sealed to hold a layer of rocks covered in water? that would be awesome. :)

If you tumble the rocks, they keep a much shinier, wetter look. :)
I'm not sure how much it would change the rocks, but it might help without having to make a water table.

Then again... a water table... you could put, like, goldfish in it!

I think there is a lacquer you can spray them with that won't yellow. I remember wood carvers who carved fish (like my mom) would have a display where the base looks like water and sometimes had rocks in them. and it was some sort of gloss lacquer.
