Bat in the Hand

Bat being processed by a field worker. We spent the day with the Wiltshire Bat Group as they did the rounds of their "bat boxes." Then at night, they captured bats in mist nets.

This is a Brown Long-eared Bat Plecotus auritus. The things that look like little ears are a structure called a tragus. At rest the bat folds its long ears back.
