First day with the Canon 1D Mk3.
The good: It's the most fun camera I've ever used. The new controls are intuitive and I'm already comfortable with them. High-ISO noise is incredible, shots at ISO 3200 are fine straight out of the camera. Lovely snappy shutter sound. Big screen is bright and clear. Auto exposure seems good. Click-and-it's-done custom white balance is very welcome.
The bad: The focus issues are definitely real. My camera shipped with the latest firmware and its serial number is more recent that the "faulty" batch, but still there's a weird focus problem. I can't say exactly what it is. I don't think it's back or front focusing, it's almost as if affected images are motion blurred even at high shutter speeds. Not all images are affected. Turning up the in-camera sharpness does help.
Lighting: Canon 580EX on the ground behind the tree, ST-E2 wireless transmitter on a cord and held out to the side so the flash could see it. Front light is from an exterior house lantern. Hand-held at 1/20s ISO 3200. No processing.
