Description: Hands of former professional baseball player, Douglas Allison, showing results of baseball playing. Dorsal surface. Feb. 12, 1889.

 

Douglas Allison was a catcher for the Cincinnati Red Stockings, the first fully professional baseball team. He was the earliest known player to have used a glove, putting on buckskin mittens to protect his hands in 1870.
