Manali to Leh Highway, India 2006
On day 3 the gear box on the bus dies, how the bus driver managed without 1st gear up until this point I do not know. Myself and two newly acquired travel buddies found a way to melt the time away. A Frenchman was more inventive; disappearing towards the mountains on foot and returning on a horse owned by a nomad some hours later. Later in the afternoon we bailed ship when a mostly unoccupied mini van came driving along like some miracle on the road, 22 people packed like sardines a can for the next 10 or so hours to Leh sweet Leh. The bus driver and co-pilot of the broken bus where left with a bottle of spirits.
