Goddess Lakshmi

An inspirational picture, very beautiful in my opinion. I've become interested in Buddhist (Himalayan) and Hindu (Indian) art recently. It really appeals to me.

Why she has five heads I don't know, perhaps it represents the five senses or five aspects or incarnations of the goddess.

She is known as the goddess of material and spiritual prosperity, and the embodiment of beauty. She is the consort of the god Vishnu (one of the 3 aspects of the ultimate divine being). She brings good luck and is believed to protect her devotees from all kinds of misery and money related sorrows.

The Hindu religion is fascinating and complex in it's Gods and Goddesses and their various incarnations. If I've erred in my description I'm happy to be corrected.

I love all the symbolism and iconography. The things they hold in their hands etc. In one of the god images I was looking at, one of the several hands appeared to be holding a spinning galaxy - I found that a powerful image. Here the goddess sits on a lotus flower and also appears to be holding a lotus in one of her hands, along with a bowl, and perhaps a shell and a mirror?
