Trying out a new Tamron SP AF 200-500mm F/5.6-6.3 lens on a Nikon D300. The shot was taken hand held 10 minutes before sunset. ISO 1000 gave me a 1/500th of a second, so hand held seemed to work OK. I took the lens out of the box 20 minutes before the shot and was walking along a neighbor's pond. The birds were in the air before I realized they had taken off. I pulled the camera up with it extended to 500mm and the lens locked focus very quickly. Easy enough for a newby. I'm pretty happy with the lens.
