On June 15, 1859, Missouri Botanical Garden founder Henry Shaw opened the Garden to the public, making it the oldest botanical garden in continuous operation in the nation. In 2009, the Garden observes our 150th anniversary, or sesquicentennial. Pictured: Statue of 'Victory of Science Over Ignorance' with ladies strolling outside, circa 1890.
