The Working Woman of Delhi

    Newer Older

A silent revolution is in process in this conservative capital of a conservative country. The women have started coming out from their homes. They do not look glamorous. They do not have the best paying jobs. Their employers are not listed in stock exchanges. There is nothing enviable about them. But they are the working women of Delhi - like this cheerful girl employed in a petrol pump.

I dont know about your opinion but i dont like that girls go out to work but they might have some problem with their daily living life. At least this job is not suitable for the girls.

My opinion is simple: If any adult, be a man or a woman, is employed in a career (that is legal) on their own will, nothing's better than that. I believe everyone must have a choice. Besides, an employed person is more independent, which is good.

Some people still tend to believe that women cannot be taken seriously as compete human beings - and this mentality is not just the product of eastern minds, its quite prevalent in the West as well. This incompleteness, in their opinions, manifests in a woman's inability to go out (of the house) and operate in capacities similar to those expected of more complete humans - menfolk.

I think it is great that this young woman has the guts to go against that mindset in an environment where it is all too common to attach preconceived notions to (women) going out and working.

Bravo for the female petrol station worker!

Thanks, Maynak, for sharing this picture.

Ahmed, I’m happy to read your comments. It is not really about feminism or other concepts. It is simply about letting people – both men and women - be independent and live their own lives.
