This shot is something of an optical illusion. The woodpecker was about twenty feet above the ground, storing acorns in a granary. The telephone pole he was using was titled ever-so-slightly toward me. In this image, the woodpecker was leaning slightly away from the pole. The combination of angles makes it look as if we are practically at eye level, instead of being vertically separated.
The worn tail feathers, used for propping the bird against a tree are a first time capture for me, as is a clear view of one very strong foot.
