Allegiant Air is an American low-cost airline owned by Allegiant Travel Co. headquartered in Enterprise, Nevada, United States. The airline operates scheduled and charter flights from focus cities at Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport, Orlando Sanford International Airport, St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Bellingham International Airport, and starting March 5 Allegiant will open a new focus city in Punta Gorda, Florida at Charlotte County Airport. The airline also offers vacation packages through its Allegiant Vacations affiliate. Allegiant Travel Co. is a public company with 980 employees and 700 millon USD market capitalization.


The McDonnell Douglas MD-80 series are twin-engine, medium-range, single-aisle commercial jet airliners. The MD-80 aircraft were lengthened and updated from the DC-9. The MD-80 series can seat from 130 up to 172 passengers. They typically feature cabin layouts that seat 140 passengers on scheduled flights, and 165 on low-cost flights.


The MD-80 series was introduced commercially in October 1980 by Swissair. The MD-80 series was followed in modified form by the MD-90 in 1989 and the MD-95/Boeing 717 in 1998.
