Diablo by Night

Newer Older

Funny what a camera sensor will do in the dark…

I decided to gather all my best images of Mount Diablo and assemble them into some kind of book, and in the process found I had over 2,000 images in all. I reduced them to 250 good ones, and am now editing and sorting out which ones I want to keep… such as this one.

This image looks best when viewed on Black in Lightbox

Exposure: 246 seconds
Aperture: f/8.0
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: -1/3 EV

Wonderful light and colors. I like the 4 minute effect on the clouds and the star trails. I should give long exposures like this a try. Very well done.

One of things I want to do is to shoot diablo at night with no moon. Great shot Matt.

Sweet! And yes, it's amazing what happens to colors in long exposures. I discovered that two years ago but it still surprises me even now. Just got finished working on a photo (not yet published) of Russian Hill. I figured it would just be a meh shot until I saw what a minute exposure did to the sky.

The addictive side of night photography truly is that no matter how often you do it, the results can still surprise.

I'm looking forward to seeing your image Bob.
