The Oakland Temple Under Cloudy Skies

I have posted a couple of images of the Oakland LDS Temple in the past here on Flickr. The thing is, I have been waiting for some blustery clouds to happen so I could go there and shoot a Maxfield Parrish feeling sort of shot of it at sunset, so when I left my home for band practice tonight, I really liked the thick swirling nature of the clouds above me and decided to see what they were like at this spot. They weren't the big blustery things I wanted, but very interesting all the same.
This building is hard to photograph because the lights which illuminate it can be quite bright and wash out all the details of the designs on the structure. Tonight the light was truly perfect… I took a few shots and then somebody accidentally turned the lights off, so I shot a couple more because of how unusual the place looked mostly dark and then went back to my car.
As I headed down Hwy 13 towards San Francisco, unfortunately, my transmission decided to pick that moment to die… I made it back to Walnut Creek, but had to get a tow from there. Band practice is put off till tomorrow, and I guess I'll be driving a rental car for the next couple of days. Still, I'm glad the car didn't decide to break down on the Bay Bridge or some other highly inconvenient spot. My stopping here for a photo op probably saved me.
