Platycostis vittata (Oak Treehopper)

This is the most beautiful leaf hopper I've seen so far! I've seen black with red, a green one, and yellow ones, but never one this magnificent! (if you can identify the species please do!)

Nice Matt. No idea of the species though. Where was this found?

If you are interested in having us show this fantastic image on (we'd definitely highlight it as the best photo), you'll need to change the licensing from All Rights Reserved to one of the Creative Commons licenses (anything except "no derivatives"). You'd also need to add the tag "taxonomy:binomial=Platycostis vittata". Thanks for considering it.

Cyndy Sims Parr Awesome! Thanks so much! Added the tag and changed to CC-BY-NC. Please shoot me a message if you guys end up using it! :) I'll be sure to contribute some more! :)

Thanks, everything looks good! Our harvester should be along in a day or two and should pick it up. I'll be watching and will be sure to rate it highly. And your other photos are fantastic as well so I look forward to seeing them.

Cyndy Sims Parr Awesome! thanks so much! I just made a set called for e.o.l. and will work on id-ing and tagging them. check that set out if you're interested! pS, I'm hoping to work with the EO Wilson Biodiversity Foundation while I attend Duke for my masters. :)

This made it onto EOL but it looks like the spelling of the scientific name is not consistent with what we already have. Can you change the title and remove the incorrect tag -- should be "Platycotis vittata" (no "s"). I've already added the correct binomial tag.

Did you know that you also have other images on EOL from Mushroom Observer: ? Look forward to seeing more from you.
