SANAA's design won in the contest that was held to see what designs renowned architects could come up with for a new theater in Almere.


The architectural designs from SANAA are recognizable by there straight lines, simple design and light. Schouwburg Almere is a low building build just above the water.

All facades are glass, and where concrete was needed it was coated with glass.


In 2007 the theater was opened by Queen Beatrix from the Netherlands. The theater has 3 performing rooms. The big theater can maintain a crowd of 1000 people
