Young cabbage head

Newer Older

A young cabbage head, in a garden in rural Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, USA. It has probably been cut off and eaten by now. I don't know what the yellow stuff is on the left extending furthest to the left. Note that this garden is almost weed-free!

Cabbage heads are mostly leaves, wrapped around each other. Cabbage is a member of the Mustard family, as are broccoli, radishes, mustard, and other edible plants. I guess we eat every part of some member of the mustard family.

More detail can be seen at the larger sizes.

Any babies to be found under there? (I guess one has to be of a "certain age" to be able to understand my question :) ...)
Cabbages have a nice color to them - an almost blue-green.
    I wish I had a weed free garden - !!

if i shop for groceries, i will usually
buy 1 and stock (they last long)
if i cook, i will add cabbage to many things,
boil some water, turn to lowest fire, dip the
cabbage for 2 seconds, take out
    then roll with some ham+egg+mayo,
then cut across and eat ! yummy !
