Candles for Mine and General Use

The mine owner commissioned candles with copper additive; if a green candle was found in the home of a miner, it was obviously stolen.

Similarly, tallow candles were edible (in extremis). But the copper would make anyone who ate them sick, so spotting anyone who ate the mine's candles was also simple.
