The Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum at Saginaw Valley State University is seeking entries for the “2010 Regional Biennial Juried Sculpture Exhibition.”

The deadline for submissions is April 30, 2010. The exhibition will take place at the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum from July 3 to September 18, 2010.

Charles McGee, a well known and respected Michigan sculptor, will be the juror for this year’s biennial. A recipient of the Kresge Foundation’s first Eminent Artist Award in 2008, McGee has built an impressive 65-year career. He was educated at the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts (College for Creative Studies), 1947-57, and Escuela Massana, Barcelona, Spain, 1968.

McGee has had solo exhibitions in Michigan at the Muskegon Museum of Art, Eastern Michigan University, Sienna Heights College, Detroit Artists Market, and numerous galleries. His work has been in group exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, Saitama, Japan; Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; Cranbrook Art Museum, Bloomfield Hills, MI; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Brooklyn Museum, Columbia University, New York; Lee Nordness Gallery, New York; Palacio de la Virreina, Barcelona, Spain; Art in U.S. Embassies, Bankok, Thailand and Howard University, Washington, DC.

Five Merit Awards will be awarded by the juror: First place $2,500; second place $1,250; third place $850; fourth place $400.

The exhibition is open to all living artists working in sculpture who have finished training or formal studies and reside within 200 miles of the Saginaw, Michigan.

“We believe it’s important that the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum and Saginaw Valley State University support living artists, and hosting a biennial sculpture exhibition is an excellent way to do it,” said Marilyn Wheaton, Museum Director.

Sculpture must be entirely original and completed within the last 5 years. Each entry must be the sculpture of the person who submits it.
