Garden Visitor!

I live in Oxfordshire (England, UK!) and as I was filling my children's paddling pool in the garden this afternoon I noticed this lizard (I assume it's a lizard?!) scuttling across the grass very fast. When he spotted me he stopped still and I was able to grab my camera and take a couple of shots before he scurried off.

 

Can anyone help me ID - I'm assuming he's a Common Lizard but his (or her!) tail looks unusual (regrowth from injury, juvenile or perhaps meant to be like that I do not know?!) I would be interested in any info!

This is not the first time we have spotted this species in our garden - we have seen one on similarly hot summer days in the past though sightings are rare!
