    Newer Older

Northern Santa Barbara County, CA. This salamander species lives in burrows of other animals much of the year, but after rains in late fall to early winter they wander to temporary pools to breed. It was during such wandering that we found this individual. The Santa Barbara Co. population is considered endangered due especially to habitat loss.
