Have you ever had an image on your hardrive that doesn't quite jump out and grab you, but at the same time, given a good moment of your attention, commands interest irregardless of bright colors or what I call "fast-food" traits? I've been sitting on this one since I took a photography trip to the Outer Banks with professional photographer and friend, Dave Allen. While the sunset was rather undramatic in terms of sky interest and color, the topography and recent rains did produce a massive puddle that calmly received and projected a duplicate image of the Bodie Island Lighthouse and its environs.
I just got in this evening from a shotgun weekend trip to South Carolina to move into a new apartment where I'll be staying for at least one year. For those that don't know me, I'm gearing up for one last run in the academic world; a graduate degree in Planning, Design, and the Built Environment at Clemson University. My previous degrees have been in the area of Construction Management. It is important to note that I would not consider myself an overly bright individual; I know a lot of people that I consider to be smart as hell and I do not see myself as operating anywhere near their headspace. However, I do love to learn things and I really enjoy reading and writing, traits that make academics an interesting, but not perfect, fit for me. If my productivity behind the lens or through Flickr experiences a reduction at any point in the future, it is only because I'm draining my energy and efforts into the aforementioned new venture. I doubt, however, that even a time-intensive effort such as a terminal degree will be able to pull me completely away from the lens and the outdoors that I enjoy so much!
