Honey Bee

    Newer Older

    Honey Bee (Apis mellifera).
You can see that she has hair on the eyes and wide hind legs, two features that characterize the species. I have to thank Nico for this lesson in biology.
    Best viewed Large, On Black.

The photo was taken during a sudden cold breeze that forced the bees to slow down, thus allowing me to get real close to this one. Using only natural light, I wish the bee was turned the other way around so that the head would be better lit, but I can live with that :-)

I was honored to have this photo chosen to be Featured Picture of the Day for the Spectacular Animals group on October 23, 2007.
