Legacy of the Empress

Emperor Dragonfly (Anax imperator), female ovipositing.

I'd been waiting for 2 years to get this shot!

On August 13th 2005, I managed to capture a female Emperor Dragonfly ovipositing, using my old point&shoot camera. I cherished the moment and the photo became my personal favorite. That's why I chose it to be the first photo I uploaded to flickr. But that photo had a few shortcomings, mainly because of the camera I used, most notable being its low resolution. So, ever since I got my DSLR and macro lens, I'd been dreaming for a chance to capture a similar moment again sometime... Lo and behold, this opportunity was given to me this Sunday. I kept scaring the dragonfly away when I moved too close, but it kept coming back to lay more eggs. Thus, the photo session lasted for about an hour and I managed to get dozens of captures. This is my favorite and I had to share it with you. Enjoy...
