Firefighters Investigate
While having lunch on May 10, 2010 at around 3:30PM at the Subway on 43rd between 5th and 6th, a firefighter came and loudly asked who was responsible for the large black suitcase on the sidewalk in front of the store. The Subway is right next to Fire Engine Company No. 65 at 33 W 43rd St. Nobody responded. Everyone looked outside rather uneasily.
Within minutes the firefighters had mobilized. They came and demanded we take what we had and leave the store. They started to block off the area. Then a guy grabbed the suitcase and sprinted down the street, toward Fifth Avenue. As you might expect, the firefighters weren’t going to let him leave without answering some questions.
Eventually, things were sorted out. But, it led to a few tense moments and certainly didn’t make the Subway people too happy.
