Silverton 442s5 Islington

Silverton Rail's ALCo 442s5 was originally built for the New South Wales Government Railways as no.44223 in 1972. Withdrawn in July 1994 it was sold to Morrison Knudsen Australia for possible rebuilding, but when that project fell through it was picked up by fledgling private rail operator Silverton Rail which after overhaul and repaint emerged onto the traverser at Islington Workshops in Adelaide in June 1998. With the demise of Silverton in 2006, its ownership has become a bit of a grey area, but it remains in service today (2011).
