Jubilee line

In 1986 the state of South Australia celebrated its sesquicentenary and the federally owned Australian National, which was headquartered in SA, formed a special Jubilee train that travelled around the state on both broad and standard gauge.

On 18 March 1986, ALCo 955 was seen at Petwood hauling the train from Adelaide to Tailem Bend en route to visiting towns on branch lines out in the Murray Mallee.

The irony is that 30 years on, apart from the mainlines, every branch the train travelled on in 1986 has been closed. That's progress!
