Heading for home

Threatening skies loom over Freightcorp triple DL531s 48164/48161/4885 are seen near Kootingal heading back towards Werris Creek with their empty ballast train no.5M52 from Walcha Road on Saturday 31 July 1993.

The train had spent all day out on the Armidale line dropping ballast as the line was upgraded in advance of the return of passenger services north of Tamworth in October 1993, after an absence of three years.

We had followed the train out and back and I even scored a cab rode between Walcha Road and Danglemah on the return.
